Inter teachers are paid less compared to their colleagues who are in permanent and Pensionable terms.
According to TSC internship agreement, Internship is non-remunerative. However, as may occasionally be decided by the Commission, interns will be paid a stipend.
Firstly when TSC started hiring instructors on internship contracts, there was a lot of resistance and criticism.
Both inside and outside the education industry voiced dissatisfaction. Even some Kenyans even filed a lawsuit to have the entire exercise thrown out.
Example,Poor remuneration for the intern teachers was one of the main issues that sparked controversy regarding the use of internship contracts to hire teachers.
Annual funding for this purpose is provided by the Commission and it will remain unchanged. A special salary of Ksh 20,000 is paid to secondary school intern instructors.
The 20,000 is subjected to two deductions.Ksh 200.00 for the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) and Ksh 750.00 for the National Social Security Fund (NSSF). Amounting to Ksh.950.00.

How to apply for TSC internship programmes for primary school teachers:
I) Visit the TSC website at http://hrmis.tsc.go.ke.
II) Select Careers from the menu, then choose Teachers/Secretariat. Next, select “Apply for Teachers Internship Position.”
III) On the visible screen, Enter the TSC number, ID number, and mobile number. Select primary or secondary from the drop-down menu below, and then click “OK.”
IV) TSC will send a text message to your line. Enter the SMS code and select “OK”
V) Click Apply/View in the display. Please enter your information accurately.
VI) Then select the Ref from the drop-down, fill in the remaining information that was not pre-filled, and click “ok.” On the following screen, click “YES.”
VII) Following that, a screen displaying the applicants’ list of completed applications will be shown.
How secondary school teachers can apply for TSC internship positions:
✓Click on this link to get to the TSC website: http://hrmis.tsc.go.ke
✓Then choose Teachers/Secretariat from the Careers drop-down menu on the menu bar. ✓Following that, click “Apply for a Teacher Internship Position.”
✓The displayed screen shows Enter your TSC number, ID number, and mobile number.
Then, select primary or secondary from the drop-down menu, as shown below, and click “OK.”
✓Your phone will receive an SMS from TSC. Click “OK” after entering the SMS code.
✓Select Apply or View from the list that is displayed. Give accurate information in the form.
✓Pick the reference from the drop-down list as displayed, provide any further information that is not automatically completed, and then click “OK.”
✓To apply to a school, click the button +click here.
Click “ok” after selecting the subjects, county, sub-county, and school.
✓The teacher is eligible to apply for many positions. SELECT OK.
✓When finished, a “Job Application” pop-up screen will appear. To submit your application, select “Yes.”
