Parents will also have to buy new sets of uniforms for their children joining junior secondary.

The Grade 7 learners will report on 30th January 2023 just like the Form 1 learners.
Junior secondary schools will have separate boards of management that will oversee the running of the institutions.Primary school headteachers will act as junior secondary school principals for one year.
The government is keen to ensure that even though junior secondary will be domiciled in primary institutions, the two levels of learning will remain distinct.
However, only elementary schools with at least 45 students will have junior secondary sections.
Neighbouring schools with few students will be combined together to form a junior secondary.

Also,it should be noted that all junior secondary school will be Domiciled in the current primary schools which will be approved fit to host them.
Kenya’s President William Ruto has ordered that all children who will move to junior secondary school should have distinct uniforms to distinguish them from their primary school counterparts.
“It is a delicate balance because parents will buy uniforms, but at the same time, no child should miss admission to junior secondary school because of a uniform.” Said Senior education officer.
Primary head teachers will act as principals of the junior secondary schools until the end of this year.
They will also be the secretaries of junior secondary boards of management (BOM) which will be distinct from those in primary schools.
Students in junior secondary school will also get government capitation per child as is presently done for other high school learners.
The transition is expected to pose some challenges in terms of infrastructure and teacher utilization .
Alot of question have emerged over the guidelines, infrastructure, and teachers’ utilisation as time ticks towards the reopening of schools .
Already Education Secretary Ezekiel Machogu set up a team of experts to draft guidelines which will ensure seamless transition of learners from grade six to grade seven this january.
Cs Machogu also confirmed that the government is up on task to ensure provision of adequate physical infrastructure and a learner-friendly environment for all learners.
