Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu reveals that learners transiting to Grade 7 will have new uniforms for the junior secondary category.
In his speech at Kenya institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), Cs Machogu arged all primary schools management to proceed by identifying type and colours of Uniforms to be worn by grade grade seven learners.
“The uniforms won’t be identical.” According to Machogu, the choice of uniform type and colour will be made by the board of management.
The Education CS also stated that parents are now responsible for purchasing new school uniforms for Grade 7 students.
“The uniforms will not be the same. It is the duty of board of management to decide on type and colours of the uniform ,” Machogu said.
The Education CS further challenged parents to be prepared to buy the Uniforms now that the government will take care of school fees for Junior Secondary learners.
Education experts have been arguing that there was needed for the students to have a way of showing that they had been promoted to another level hence changing Uniforms.
The Presidential Working Party equally proposed change in junior secondary uniform as a psychological tool to learners who will be seeing themselves higher than their colleagues.
The move was supported by Kenya primary schools Heads Association(KEPSHA).
The government by November 22nd last year made a decision to domicile junior secondary that wl include grade 7,8 & 9 in primary schools.
On November 30, 2022, State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed stated that “the Ministry of Education would offer the required rules on how this will be done.”
