Brief History Of TSC.The Teachers Service Commission was founded in 1967, although its roots can be found in the 1950s, when teachers, under the leadership of former President Daniel T. Moi, battled vehemently for the creation of a single teaching body.

Formation Of KNUT 1957
There was persistent lobbying for the establishment of an umbrella organisation to oversee the concerns of all teachers following the inception of the first teachers union in Kenya, the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), in 1957.
Teachers were then employed by missionaries, local governments, or the central government, which resulted in a wide difference in pay and other employment terms and conditions.
A capable, esteemed, and satisfied teaching force was strongly advocated for in the 1964 Kenya Education Commission Report (also known as the Ominde Report).
It firmly believed that a qualified, well-respected, and happy teaching force was essential.
The Teachers Service Commission was established in July 1967 as a consequence of a parliamentary act, giving teachers a single employer and standardizing terms and conditions of employment.
It was given the responsibility of appointing, paying, promoting, and disciplining teachers.
