TSC Recruitment news.Every year, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) will transition 15,000 currently employed intern teachers to permanent and pensionable terms (PNT).
They are student instructors in elementary and junior high schools, as well as in 8.4.4 secondary establishments.
In addition to replacing the teachers who are retiring at an increasing rate, this will help address the serious teacher shortage.
LAST TSC RECRUITMENT 2022/2023
TSC posted 35,550 teaching positions in the December 2022 recruitment ad. Of them, 21,550 were internship positions for junior high and secondary students.
At primary schools, there were 4,000 openings for internships. Only 10,000 positions were available during “PNP” terms, with 9,000 openings in junior high and secondary schools and 1,000 in primary schools.
The Commission has now announced that it will add a significant number of intern teachers to the PNP payroll each year, so there is some hope at the end of the tunnel.
All intern teachers who were still working in 2022 were converted to permanent periods of employment in January by TSC.

TSC MEMO 11TH JANUARY 2023
The Commission stated that the teachers do not need to apply as their information is being handled in a document dated January 11, 2023.
“The Board has decided that in the ongoing teacher recruiting process, all teachers who were participating in an internship program in 2022 will be hired on permanent, pensionable terms of employment.”
The goal of this email is to propose that none of the teacher interns for 2022 be removed from the payroll while their applications for employment on permanent and pensionable conditions of service are processed, according to the TSC Director of Staffing memo.
Salary Scale For Interns Teachers
TSC states that primary school teacher interns are eligible for a monthly stipend of Kshs. 15,000/=, while junior secondary school teacher interns are eligible for Kshs. 20,000/=.
Nevertheless, where necessary, the stipend shall be given subject to statutory deductions.
The Teacher Internship Program is a one-year course designed to prepare and maintain the competencies of those beginning their careers as teachers.
