According to the recently Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), the TSC has identifies four sub-counties in Nyandarua County to remove from the list of hardship areas.
- Kigumo, sub-county
- Murang’a sub-county
- Kandara sub-county

Nyahururu sub-counties. The TSC has noted that the data collected during the countrywide data collection exercise undertaken during the 2020–2021 financial year revealed that the conditions in these sub-counties are no longer considered harsh enough to warrant extra allowances.
Additionally, the Principal Secretary for Interior Services dispatches five teams to various counties to collect data to inform on new hardship areas.
The teams interviewed teachers, Curriculum Support Officers (CSOs), public servants, and residents of the areas they visited as they collected real-time data on the condition of the areas.

The TSC has noted that the data collected during the exercise revealed that the conditions in the aforementioned four sub-counties are no longer considered harsh enough to warrant extra allowances.
This means that the teachers in these areas will not be paid the hardship allowance until the next financial year, when these areas will possibly be re-evaluated.
It is also worth noting that the allowance is only applicable to pensionable and permanent teachers and not on a uniform basis.
The TSC has stated that it has no mandate to list or delist hardship regions.
Furthermore, only after the official new hardship areas are gazetted and a budget is passed will the payment be made.
Therefore, the teachers in these areas will have to wait until the following conditions are met before receiving the allowance:

1) Baringo North; Tiaty East, Tiaty West and Marigat sub-counties in Baringo County.
2) Garissa County
3) Suba and Mbita sub-counties in Homa Bay County
4) Isiolo County
5) Mashuuru, Loitoktok and Kajiado West sub-counties in Kajiado County
6) Kwale County
7) Magarini and Ganze in Kilifi County
8) Lamu County
9) Mandera County
10) Marsabit County
11)Mumoni, Mutito North and Tseikuru sub-counties in Kitui County
12) Narok South and Narok North sub-counties in Narok County
13) Samburu County
14) Taita Taveta County
15) Tana River County
16) Turkana County
17) Wajir County
18) West Pokot County
TSC online,Areas Recommended For Hardship Allowances Payment
Those Areas recommended for allowance payment include Nyando, Chonyi, Lungalunga Suba and parts of Nandi areas.
While others including parts of Samburu and Kinango, Lamu, Tana River and Taita Taveta have been recommended for scrapping.
