TSC online payslip. The Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) will demand payment for elementary school teachers who have assisted in teaching in junior secondary schools (JSS), as the recently hired instructors are insufficient.
According to Knut Secretary-General Collins Oyuu, thousands of their members are competent to teach in JSS and have already been assigned lessons; therefore, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) should pay them.
“We can’t watch as students suffer.” Despite their efforts, TSC needs our assistance. “Nonetheless, as is customary in the workforce, there should be more remuneration for more work,” he stated. Those with the requisite credentials are currently teaching in JSS.

TSC online payslip,TEACHERS SHORTAGE IN JSS
Although TSC employed and sent 10,000 instructors and 20,000 interns to JSS in February, just one or two teachers were sent to the majority of the 23,000 public schools.
Johnson Nzioka, chairperson of the Kenya Primary Schools Heads Association (Kepsha), stated that despite staffing issues, learning continues at JSS.
“Majority of schools have goot books, and we got to hire the quality teachers.” But we haven’t got capitation monies to run school activities smoothly.
“For the first term, the primary school students have got 20% instead of the 50% allocation. “We don’t have enough money to fund running schools or to purchase instructional materials,” he says
Mr. Oyuu disclosed that Knut has formed a sub-group under its steering committee to deal with JSS concerns and that on Thursday they will meet with Kepsha officials to examine the “actual situation on the ground.”
SPECIAL NEED EDUCATION TEACHERS CONSIDERATION
Peter Sitienei, the chair of the Kenya Union of Special Needs Education Teachers, asks TSC to give priority to the deployment of JSS teachers with special needs education (SNE) qualifications.
“The cost of living has increased even though we haven’t received the funding for SNE,” he continued. Some principals have contacted me and asked for an early school dismissal.
He further challenges that on allocations of finances to schools, special needs children to get lion share because they are vulnerable.
To increase enrollment, the TSC has issued an invitation to qualified teachers to submit applications for deployment to JSS by today’s deadline. The standards established by the panel, according to Mr. Oyuu, are flawed since they will disqualify many eligible cases.
A teacher must have received a mean grade of C+ in their two teaching subjects and at least a C+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education or its equivalent in order to be qualified.
“Instead of relying on a teacher’s secondary school grades, the criteria should take into account their most recent degree.” The teacher’s experience taken into account. Several educators received a C-minus on the KCSE yet excelled in their college courses. They shouldn’t have a C letter.
